It
was an unforgettable experience for us to be a part of 64th
Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) 2012 hosted by Association
of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) at SRM University Chennai
from 6th to 9th December 2012. The theme of the congress
was “Vision 2020: pharmacy education: innovation, strategies and
globalization.
The
session was started with inaugural function by the chief guest His Excellency Dr.A.P.J
Abdul kalam on 6th Dec.
The
visionary address of Dr. Kalam inspired and ignited the minds of budding
pharmacists like us. He pointed that by 2020; the demand for pharmacists will
be around 1.7 million in India and should set a target of producing 20% of
world’s generics production. He concluded with a 5 point oath for pharma students.
Presidential
address was given by Prof. K. Chinna swamy, president of IPCA and
retired professor of Madras medical college Chennai. While he extended a warm
welcome to all delegates, he laid special emphasis on pressing issues that
threatens the quality of pharmacy education and disclosed that innovation in
curriculum, best practices in teaching and learning methodologies, sharing of
educational and practice experience and quality assurance could serve to
overcome the challenges.
Felicitation
and address was given by guest of honor Dr. T.R Pacha muthu
chancellor, SRM University conveyed warmest greetings to all delegates.
Scientific
session inaugurated on 7th Dec at 9 am by chief guest Dr. G.N
Singh, drugs controller general of India. He assured that theme of
congress vision 2020 would definitely enlighten the pharmacy professionals
about their expanding role and responsibilities in the wake of rapid
globalization.
Guest
of honor was Shri. Ravi Pacha mootu, chairman SRM University. He
extended his privilege to host the 64th IPC at SRM University.
Felicitation
was given by Dr. B Suresh, president of PCI and vice chancellor
of JSS University Mysore. He assured that exchange of views, processes and
methodologies through this congress will lead to concrete recommendations
aiming at excellence and will help in designing the architecture of quality
assurance.
Separate
gathering of industrial people was arranged by pharma excel to portray
innovative equipments and industrial processes of 15 major international
pharmaceutical companies.
2694
abstracts was selected for poster presentation and segregated into 12
categories and one among each category was called for oral presentation. Poster
selection was scheduled on 8th and 9th Dec from 9 to 4
pm. 3 abstracts was selected from Alshifa College of pharmacy for
poster presentation.
Scientific
program was conducted at a time in 4 different air conditioned halls.
Dr.
Mike Rouse, assistant executive director, professional affaires and director,
international services accreditation council for pharmacy education (ACPE),
Chicago, USA delivered a wonderful speech on global expectation for pharmacy
education.
Mr
Paul V Companelli CEO, Par pharmaceutical companies USA talked about pharmacy
industry US and Indian perspective.
IPA’s
national elocution competition and students quiz competition raised the
enthusiasm of student delegates.
First
two days evening was enlighted by cultural programs by professionals of Tamil
film industry and students.
We
convey our deep gratitude towards the organizers of 64th IPC and
faculty of our college to support us in all our ways.
