A report on the national level seminar
conducted at PSG college of Pharmacy, CBE, by third year Pharm.D
A
National Level Seminar on “WIDENING THE HORIZONS
FOR PRACTICING PHARMACISTS IN INDUSTRIES
AND HOSPITALS” was conducted on 5th and 6th of July 2013
on PSG College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore.
A group of 16 Pharm.D 1st batch students, 1 B.Pharm 9th
batch student and 5 of the M.Pharm students attended the seminar. We reached
the college by quarter to ten. We were welcomed with a warm hostility by the
organizers of PSG College of Pharmacy. The seminars of the first day were
divided into five sessions. In the first session, Mr. Prafull D.Sheth,
Vice President of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) spoke based on
the topic, “Challenges for Practicing
Pharmacist in Counterfeit Drugs in India”. In this session, he
emphasized the importance of the pharmacists in knowing his roles and
responsibilities against the counterfeit of drugs in India. An Overview of Clinical Research and
Opportunities for Pharmacy Students in Clinical Research was presented by Mr.
Satheesh Kumar R, Assistant Manager, Medical Affairs, Orchid Chemicals &
Pharmaceuticals Ltd in the next session. After that, we had the most awaited
and informative Poster presentation session. Around 18 of us registered for the
poster presentation. Of that 12 of them presented their posters in the first
day. Sessions based on Medication
Errors, Pharmacovigilance Related employment opportunities, the possibilities
for Practicing Pharmacist in Hospitals, Role of Practicing Pharmacist in Public
Health Programmes, Opportunities in Medical Writing were conducted on the first
day. The second day started with a session based on the Reliability of
Practicing Pharmacist Experience in Patient Care which was followed by the
poster presentation in which the rest of us presented our topics. After that we
attended a session that gave us fairly good information regarding Good Pharmacy
Practice followed by tips on How to be Successful in the Corporate World of
Pharmaceutical Industries and Hospitals. The session ended with the valedictory
function. This seminar has played a vital role in building up the confidence
among us to present freely regarding any topic before any person. It has helped
us in understanding in detail regarding the profession as pharmacist and also
helped us in keeping up the etiquettes of our profession. We returned back to
our college after 9pm and it was a memorable experience for us.
