Hands-on learning is an educational method that directly involves the learner and is always beneficial than lecture based classrooms. Students are able to see how things work, and will have a deeper understanding about the concepts in a much better way. Through hands on technique of teaching, the student has to actively participate in the project and this will help them learn, comprehend and remember what they are learning. Pharm D students must be given more hands on training in order to improve their learning skills and polish their critical thinking skills.
It is indeed proud to say that our students have hugely benefitted from the hands on training projects that were carried out in the last academic year. Mr. Mammen Paul, Pharm D intern has developed indigenous software for monitoring adverse drug reaction with out the help of any software developer. He is also working on electronic formulary, named as “Futura ADRS” which is expected to launch soon. His experience in developing this software has been covered in this issue with great significance.
Department of Pharmacy Practice (M pharm + Pharm D) has successfully completed 23 Projects in collaboration with various other departments of KIMS ALSHIFA Hospital. It is noteworthy to say that many of the students have done exceptionally well as the number of innovative ideas and research papers that came up as a result of these projects are commendable.
The faculty of each Pharmacy school should show the students the practical utility of what they are learning and should give them the real world experience through internship programs, which will help stimulate critical thinking skills and make them more marketable in future.
Department of Pharmacy practice organized a half-day session on “Art of Scientific Writing”.  Dr. Ashique, (Consultant Dermatologist, KIMS ALSHIFA) headed the session. Management organized a One-day workshop on Scientific Writing for Doctors and students. Both the Programs turned out to be tremendous learning experience for the faculty as well as students.
