 MINUTES OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION

Venue: Academic Hall, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy.

Time: 10.30 am

The programme started at 10.30 am. Students and staff of al shifa college of Pharmacy attended the meeting. Following dignitaries were gladly received on the stage.

Prof. (Dr.) T.N.K. Suriaprakash welcomed everyone. He drew the attention of gathering to the theme of ‘Women’s Day Celebration’. He also announced the formation of Women Development cell in the college with Mrs. Smitha Rani as its President and Mrs. Shebina P Rasheed as the secretary.
Mr. P. Unneen delivered the presidential address. He outlined the role of society in the upliftment and development of women. He also quoted writer Sugatha Kumari’s inspiring message about Women’s day.
Mr. K. Subramanian felicitated by discussing various themes declared by U.N.in relation with Women’s Day for the previous year’s such as the 2009 theme being ‘Men and women united to end violence against women and girls’ and the 2012 theme-‘Empower rural women. End poverty and hunger’. He also remarked the observation of November 19 as International Men’s Day’
Mr. Joshy Joseph suggested that, the society must undergo revolutionary metamorphoses to become more humane.
Mr. Dilip C., Associate professor, Al Shifa college of Pharmacy thanked everyone and the inaugural ceremony was concluded.

Inaugural ceremony was followed by panel discussion on the topic ‘Empower the women’. Justice Narayanan Kutty Menon expressed his views upon the current condition of women in the society.
Smt. Gowri insisted that, girls must be provided with proper education rather than compelling them to get married at their early ages. She exerted her opinion that the girl child must have the right to take birth, grow and develop in the society.
 Justice. Narayanan Kutty Menon recalled Suryanelly and Delhi rape cases and urged to have an unbiased scientific enquiry into these incidents.
The audience participated actively in the panel discussion.
When a question was asked, whether our society is a sexually starved one and most of the assaults took place due to the immodest dressing of women.
Mr. Arun Kumar, Assistant professor, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy replied that the reason for assaults against women is because of the cruel mindset of people rather than immodest dressing by them.
 Everyone agreed the idea of having ‘sex education’ in healthy manner from the school level itself.
Mrs. Smitha Rani, Assistant professor, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy highlighted the role of women in houses as well as in society.
Smt. Gowri commended about the limitation of women at different phases of life, which inturn makes them irresistible towards suppression and she mentioned that, the unemployed, uneducated women are not strong enough to fight.
The discussion stressed that, the reason for most problems in the society is poverty.
It is also confirmed that women are not inferior and should have enough self-confidence and courage to fight for her rights.
Mementos were issued to the dignitaries and the programme was concluded with national anthem.
