Dear Healthcare Professionals!
An academic year has come to an end. Lots of
projects, new research methods, exciting results, learned few things along the
way! What a way to learn and getting an opportunity for the upgradation of
ourselves as well as pharmacy profession! All these research projects from
Fifth Pharm.D and Final M.Pharm (Pharmacy Practice) students! First time nearly
more than 20 projects have been completed in the academic year 2014 – 2015!
Kudos the faculties of Department of Pharmacy Practice. Our college is one among
very few colleges will have final year Pharm.D! Preparatory work have been
initiated on how to spread this one year Internship period. As per Pharmacy
Council of India guideline, the interns can go to any other hospital for three
months period. Students are excited about this prospect for being trained in
new hospital in a new environment! To create an awareness and to highlight the
suitability of PharmD graduates in hospitals as Clinical Pharmacist, we
envisage a programme under Indian Medical Association banner inviting all the
doctors in Perinthalmanna to attend the programme in which an eminent person
from Pharma field will address. Our first batch Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)
have completed their final Year Internship and all the three students are
placed in corporate hospitals. Two are placed in Aster Medcity, Kochi and one
in KIMS Al Shifa Hospital, Perinthalmanna as Clinical Pharmacists. It is great
news for the students and colleges that run Pharm.D programme.
It is always noteworthy to see that students
create headlines with their activity as well as their passion for community
pharmacy. Fifth Pharm.D students conducted Prescription Adalat in remote
villages inviting the people to bring their medications and explaining about
the medicines and highlighting the importance of consulting doctor before
discontinuing or changing the dosage. It was a hit in the villages it was held
and that news in Pharmabiz received great patronage among the healthcare
professionals as novel approach to community pharmacy cum counselling. Kudos to
the students. As usual, Dr. Mohanta of AnnamalaiUniverity have come up with an
excellent article on “When less is better – Using Eye Drops”, an eye opener for
those who prescribe, dispense and use the eye drops.
This time we have another article on Role of
Sugar in Diabetic Treatment gives an insight into misbeliefs on diabetics and
sugar usage.
My thanks to our faculties, Mr. Linu Mohan,
Ms. Shinu and Mr. Levin Thomas for contributing excellent articles and Dr.
Dilip for coordinating all the activities of the department.
All these activities are possible
because of support and encouragement from our most respected, Mr. P. Unneen,
Managing Trustee, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Mr. SuhailHamsa, General
Manager – Shifa Institute of Medical Sciences and all the directors of Shifa
Medicare Trust!
Dr. TNK. Suriyaprakash
