Message from the Principals Desk

 Message from the Principals Desk

It is a great pleasure to have been appointed as the Principal of this prestigious institution few months back.  Al Shifa College of Pharmacy was established in the year 2002 by a great visionary, Mr. P. Unneen, under Shifa Medicare Trust.  This trust runs a 350 bedded hospital in Perintalmanna (500 more to be added in 3 months time), that was established in the year 1989 with 75 beds, is a state of the art hospital accessed by patients from all over India and also from other countries particularly Middle East.  Our Pharm D., Pharm D (Post Baccalaureate)., and M.Pharm (Pharmacy Practice) students are trained in this multi speciality hospital.
Al Shifa College of Pharmacy is the pioneers of pharmacy education in Kerala, which runs courses Pharm D., Pharm D (P B)., M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis), B.Pharm., and D.Pharm., giving exemplary education in a 6 acre sprawling, green and pollution free campus at Kizhattur.
The Pharmacists has evolved from being referred as ‘compounders’ few decades back to healthcare professionals now. There was a paradigm shift in the last decade when Pharm D course was incorporated by Pharmacy Council of India by the legendary Dr. B. Suresh, President, in the pharmacy curriculum.  The new meaning of paramedical course for pharmacy education was established and the medical fraternity started identifying its role and importance, now saddled firmly in the delivery of treatment to patients in hospitals.
Al Shifa College of Pharmacy never let to be behind in this paradigm shift is giving best education and exposure to its students in its hospital where Drug Information Centre, ADR Cell and Pharmacovigilance Cell has been established with Mr. C. Dilip as Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice and works in tandem with medical professionals.
This is a year beckoning decennial celebration being planned to be conducted in few months time.  The faculties of Al Shifa College of Pharmacy true to their potential publish their research findings in various peer reviewed and high impact journals having more than 100 publications to date. They are also actively in sending proposals to various funding agencies to move to higher level in research and development.
Ground work has also been started for establishing Technology Business Incubator Centre, Entrepreneurship Development Cell in collaboration with University of Calicut and Patent Information Centre.

With great hope and vision we are entering into New Year 2013 wishing to achieve success and to fulfil our dreams….

Dr. T.N.K. Suriyaprakash M.Pharm., PhD., PGDPL.,
Principal.
