ADR Awareness class for pharmacists


             ADR Awareness class  for pharmacists-March 18th 2013

An awareness class on importance of ADR monitoring and detection was conducted by Evlin,(Second M.Pharm student) on March 8th, Friday at 8.30 AM for pharmacist of Al-Shifa hospital. The seminar was attended by all pharmacy related professionals including chief pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, pharmacy co-coordinators and other pharmacist. Seminar covered major topics including, what is an ADR, why to report ADR, major ADR monitoring centers, need for ADR monitoring and its importance. A pre test was conducted before the seminar to assess pharmacist knowledge, so as to modify the class accordingly. result from the pretest shown that majority were unaware regarding the importance of ADR monitoring. The seminar was conducted in an interactive manner with simple examples so as to make everyone understand. All forms including ADR documentation form, reporting card were circulated among pharmacist to make them familiarize about the available forms. Drop box implemented in all major nursing stations was made aware to pharmacist to prompt them to report more ADRs. Pharmacists were also made aware regarding the difference between side effect, medication error and drug interaction with examples to understand the difference with ADR. During the seminar it was observed that pharmacist were unaware regarding their role in ADR monitoring and detection and also about how to report ADR.  During class some major examples of ADR and present hospital scenario ADR monitoring were pointed out to make pharmacist understand the need for ADR monitoring. Test was performed again after the class, to assess pharmacist level of understanding after the completion of seminar. Seminar was opened to clear doubts after completion, which showed a good response. Seminar was finally concluded with prompting pharmacist to report ADR.
