LET’S PUT DIABETES BEHIND THE CREASE

LET’S PUT DIABETES BEHIND THE CREASE

On Nov14, 2014 World Diabetes Day we got an opportunity to lead an awareness program conducted by the Perithalmanna district hospital. We were enrolled with the duty to provide awareness to the natives of Chirattamanna 1st ward in Perithalmanna on matters regarding to diabetics and anti diabetic drugs. The program was chaired by counselor of the ward and felicitated by Premma health coordinator of Perithalmanna district hospital.
The first session of the day was about “LIFE STYLE DISEASE AND THEIR CURRENT RELEVANCE”. Now a day’s half of the school students have become victims of many life style diseases. We learned that unhealthy diet habits followed by lack of physical activities, exercise an increased craving for fast food and carbonated drinks, skipping measles. have lead to obesity, which have eventually resulted in life style diseases
To promote healthier eating habits and a disease free lifestyle, we decided to team up and talk to the mothers to take a healthy step and give only healthy food to their children. We asked them to make sure that they bring up a future generation of healthy and vibrant children.
Diabetes is a major life style disease. The second session of the day focused on how to lead a better life with proper health care for diabetes. We handled topics regarding the importance of exercise, proper usage of medicines and also on how to approach diabetes in our family and community with a good caring attitude. There was question and answering session open for the participants at the end of both sessions.
A free blood sugar check up was also organised by the hospital. We provided counselling to many diabetic patients, prone to develop diabetes in future regarding diabetic management and diet.
With the whole hearted support from the Asha health workers, government authorities and many other organizers the one day ant diabetic program proved useful to many natives of this community as budding clinical pharmacists, we could also donate and time for this course.
Like DR B SURESH president of PCI said “If at least one clinical pharmacist is working whole heartedly in each village for our nation it will be sufficient enough to make our nation  note worthy in the healthcare scenario”,with this as our motto lets join our hands as new generation pharmacist for this venture.
