Editorial

On an invitation received from World health organization, I had an opportunity to participate in essential medicine and health policy 2016, Technical briefing session(TBS) held at WHO Geneva from 17th Oct to 21st Oct 2016. Spending time one week among the most influencing and powerful policy makers in the health care sector was indeed a rewarding moment in my professional life. The technical briefing session provided an enthralling intuition on the essential medicines concept. There were about 29 different sessions during these 5 days period, including origin, concept, history and future of Essential medicines products (EMP). Also, many experts discussed various burning issues on Antimicrobial resistance (AMR,) Spurious drugs, Regulatory aspects, Procurement and supply chain mismanagement, good governance in pharmaceutical sector etc. The TBS  training were unique and diverse with 30 different participants representing different countries across the world. It was really a proud moment for me to represent our country India, and I feel  contended to be selected as a candidate from Alshifa college of Pharmacy. The outcome of the meeting was fruitful and  in this issue the readers can have a glimpses of the same.

Our department as usual, forges ahead with numerous activities including the diabetics awareness organized by M.Pharm second year students at attapadi hamlets, antenatal care awareness organized by fifth Pharm.D, a visit to charitable institution by second Pharm.D  as well as  commemoration of world aids day by organizing a talk on HIV appraisal  by Dr Ashique K.T, Consultant dermatologist,KIMS ALSHIFA and many more which all were the main highlights and the same has been covered in this issue.

Anderson on leadership issues in pharmacy and Dr Mohanta  on Antiseptics causing infection. Also  our staff shares various informational topics .

Mrs Anuja and Swaliya shaji got first prize and cash  prize  of 1000- INR for the best  poster during the infection prevention week held at KIMS Alshifa hospital. Ms.Mariam Perter, (  2nd Pharm.D (P.B,won 5th position in National elocution competition conducted by IPA held at IPC ( December 2016 )at Vishakhapatnam.
I whole heartedly congratulate all the students on their glorious victory.

On the whole 2016 was indeed a memorable year with many number of  outreach activities which  contributed largely to the society as well as with  many research presentations ,scientific publication  and participation  of our students & Faculty in more than 25 conferences altogether had largely contributed to the advancement of pharmacy.

A new year 2017 ahead ! Think positive, be courageous and have trust in our dreams. Lets all keep in mind that a strong positive self image is the best possible  preparation for Success. Wish you all a happy successful 2017 ahead.
