Editorial

In the era of globalization where change is the buzzword, each and every clinical pharmacist and health care professionals should be ready to embrace the change and must be aware of the emergency care techniques and basic life support procedures along with other academic schedules. With an objective of equipping the emerging clinical pharmacists, we the department of pharmacy practice organized a one day workshop where Dr. Abeer, (HOD Emergency department, KIMS Alshifa hospital) and his team gave hands on training on how to take B.P, Injections, First aid measures, CPR etc.  Training is first of its kind in Kerala and feed back from students is highly positive and the same has been covered in this issue of newsletter.
It is noteworthy to say that our students have bagged innumerable accolades in the previous quarter. Ms. Anu Rose and Ms. Fathima Suhra bagged best research poster award in a two-day international conference held at Manipal in the month of January 2017. Ms Irene Stanly and MS Anuja Pradeep achieved first and second place in the poster and oral presentation competition on one-day research day, which was held at Amrita College of Pharmacy. A study conducted and lead by Pharm D student Amina Shajahan on ‘drugs used by endosulfan victims at Kasaragode’ deserves a special mention and applause. The outcome of the study has been appreciated at Ministry level followed by wide coverage by the press and the media. Prevalence of cancer in the society has been multiplying at logarithmic rate and our M.Pharm students in collaboration with the Pain and Palliative, Perinthalmanna, organized a Cancer day with the distribution of relief kit to about 50 cancer patients, which was sponsored by Shifa Medicare trust. Our students also actively participated in Polio and Cancer awareness program in collaboration with Govt. hospital, Perinthalmanna. Congratulations to all the winners and participants on their outstanding achievements!

I am delighted to let all the readers know that Kerala University of Health Sciences has recognized Alshifa College of Pharmacy as a Research Centre and also, Alshifa has come up to the number one Pharmacy College in Kerala as per NIRF  Ranking. Indeed a proud moment for all of us.
We believe in a holistic approach of molding each and every student and we hope all the things we ask of each student will only help them to become the embodiment of hard work and a symbol of commitment all through their lives. We hope to instill the significance of selfless service in every student through all these outreach / clinical and social activities, and thus the very basic aim of education like sharing the knowledge and empowering others are being accomplished. Regular articles and columns from our guest and staff make this issue unique and before I sign off, I wish all my readers a pleasant reading!
