A report on the national level seminar conducted at PSG college of Pharmacy, CBE, by third year  Pharm.D 

A  National Level Seminar onWIDENING THE HORIZONS FOR PRACTICING PHARMACISTS IN  INDUSTRIES AND HOSPITALS” was conducted on 5th and 6th of July 2013 on PSG College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore. A group of 16 Pharm.D 1st batch students, 1 B.Pharm 9th batch student and 5 of the M.Pharm students attended the seminar. We reached the college by quarter to ten. We were welcomed with a warm hostility by the organizers of PSG College of Pharmacy. The seminars of the first day were divided into five sessions. In the first session, Mr. Prafull D.Sheth, Vice President of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) spoke based on the topic, “Challenges for Practicing Pharmacist in Counterfeit Drugs in India”. In this session, he emphasized the importance of the pharmacists in knowing his roles and responsibilities against the counterfeit of drugs in India. An Overview of Clinical Research and Opportunities for Pharmacy Students in Clinical Research was presented by Mr. Satheesh Kumar R, Assistant Manager, Medical Affairs, Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd in the next session. After that, we had the most awaited and informative Poster presentation session. Around 18 of us registered for the poster presentation. Of that 12 of them presented their posters in the first day. Sessions based on Medication Errors, Pharmacovigilance Related employment opportunities, the possibilities for Practicing Pharmacist in Hospitals, Role of Practicing Pharmacist in Public Health Programmes, Opportunities in Medical Writing were conducted on the first day. The second day started with a session based on the Reliability of Practicing Pharmacist Experience in Patient Care which was followed by the poster presentation in which the rest of us presented our topics. After that we attended a session that gave us fairly good information regarding Good Pharmacy Practice followed by tips on How to be Successful in the Corporate World of Pharmaceutical Industries and Hospitals. The session ended with the valedictory function. This seminar has played a vital role in building up the confidence among us to present freely regarding any topic before any person. It has helped us in understanding in detail regarding the profession as pharmacist and also helped us in keeping up the etiquettes of our profession. We returned back to our college after 9pm and it was a memorable experience for us.
